(A) The Dimasa people are an indigenous Assamese community of people inhabiting Assam and Nagaland states in North-Eastern India. (B) The guest of honour are usually honoured with Risha or Rigdo.(C) ‘Risha’ is translated as “small cloth” in Dimasa language, derived from Rih(Cloth) and Basa(small). (1) Ethnically, the Dimasas are known for their Tibeto-Burman origins, royal lineage and a strong sense of folk culture. In their language, Dimasa means “children of the great river”. Many Dimasa Kacharis live in Haflong, (Assam) though they are also residents of Karbi Anglong, Cachar, Dimapur and even Nowgong district. (2) The Rigdo is a little muffler that these people carry with themselves. Risha and Gainthao are both Dhotis that differ in length.
